Before taking off from <strong>Toronto Airport<\/strong>, my plane started smoking on the runway, forcing us to taxi back for a <strong>four-hour delay<\/strong>\u2014an interesting start to the trip. I reminded myself of what I wrote in my <a href=\"https:\/\/snailtrailoutdoors.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/22\/how-to-travel-stress-free-a-guide-to-enjoy-your-adventures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"stress-free travel guide:\"><strong>stress-free travel guide<\/strong>:<\/a> when things are out of your control, go with the flow. So I grabbed a seat at an airport bar, had a couple of beers, and let the stress roll off. The reality of being alone in an unfamiliar place hit me hard the next morning. Gros Morne, a <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/strong>, is part of the <strong>Long Range Mountains<\/strong> and offers a challenging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alltrails.com\/trail\/canada\/newfoundland-and-labrador\/gros-morne-mountain-trail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"10-mile loop \"><strong>10-mile loop<\/strong> <\/a>hike. The trail features steep inclines, sweeping views of freshwater ponds, cascading waterfalls, and rugged beauty shaped over millions of years. They enthusiastically shared insights about their culture, the land, and the wildlife, helping me appreciate the deeper connection Newfoundlanders have with their surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moose Burgers and Coastal Exploration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After descending Gros Morne, I treated myself to a <strong>moose burger<\/strong> at a local spot called <a href=\"https:\/\/buoyandarrow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"The Bouy &amp; Arrow.\"><strong>The Bouy &amp; Arrow<\/strong>.<\/a> It was the perfect meal after a long day of hiking. That evening, I explored the <strong>Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse<\/strong>, perched along the rugged coastline with stunning views of <strong>Bonne Bay<\/strong> and the <strong>Gulf of St. Lawrence<\/strong>. Though tragic, the story is one of resilience. All passengers\u2014<strong>including a baby sent ashore in a mailbag<\/strong>\u2014were rescued by locals using a makeshift rope system. It was a reminder of Newfoundland\u2019s historic ties to the sea and its people\u2019s enduring bravery. The chilling cold waters and harsh conditions of that time made the story even more remarkable. From there, I wrapped around <strong>Bonne Bay<\/strong> on highways 430 and 431, stopping by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newfoundlandlabrador.com\/plan-and-book\/attractions\/28787870\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Gros Morne Visitor Center\">Gros Morne Visitor Center<\/a><\/strong> to learn more about the area\u2019s geology. The trail winds through lush green fields, sea stacks, and dramatic rock formations, where the <strong>coastal cliffs<\/strong> meet the wild waves. The guides shared fascinating stories about the landscape, and at one point, I gave up my top deck seat for an older couple. I moved to the bow and, within minutes, was <strong>completely soaked<\/strong>. The small town of Gander, along with nearby communities, welcomed these stranded travelers with open arms. Locals opened their homes, provided food, clothing, and shelter, and went out of their way to ensure everyone felt safe and cared for. This extraordinary act of kindness perfectly reflects the generous and welcoming spirit of Newfoundland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The people of Newfoundland made this trip truly unforgettable.
